How our plan can help.
Our meal plans work well for someone with gout, as we do not include a lot of foods high in purines and we follow the basic principles of the Mediterranean diet. Often for gout, it is recommended to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Since we focus on portion and calorie control for all of our meal plans many customers have success with this goal. Research suggests that reducing the number of calories and losing weight, even without restricting purines in the diet, can help to lower uric acid levels and reduce gout attacks. Losing weight also lessens the overall stress on joints.
We follow the nutrition guidelines from the American Heart Association for all of our meal plans focusing on lean sources and plant-based sources of protein while eliminating most processed meats and no pork. We also include a variety of complex carbohydrates including whole grains and fresh fruits and vegetables. We eliminate all sources of trans fat and high fructose corn syrup which is recommended for gout. Our plans follow the basic principles of the Mediterranean diet which helps reduce inflammation related to gout as well.
