How Much Sugar Is In Your Meal Plans?

All calorie plans adhere to the added sugar guidelines set forth by multiple health agencies. There are two types of sugar found in our diet. There is natural sugar found in fruits, dairy products, and some vegetables. These types of “good sugars” also add many antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. There are no recommendations for natural sugar consumed per day. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, which would contribute a good amount of naturally occurring sugars and has been proven to contribute to good health. 

Foods that have too man added sugar offer no nutritional benefits and provide empty calories that lead to weight gain. These types of foods should be limited as much as possible, especially those with or at risk for diabetes. Americans are eating and drinking too many added sugars, which can contribute to health problems such as weight gain, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and heart disease. 

With Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating meals, you can have confidence in the food you are eating as our plans average 4-5% of calories from added sugars. The recommendations from the Dietary Guidelines are 10% or less. Our meals do contain naturally-occurring sugars, but most of them are derived from fresh fruits and dairy products, giving your body the necessary vitamins and minerals it needs to function properly. We pair foods that have a small amount of added sugar with nutrient-rich food, providing a healthy and balanced diet that won't impact weight gain. 

The American Heart Association recommends no more than 100 calories of added sugars per day for women and 150 calories for men. Our plan averages per day are as follows:


1200 calorie plan: About 50 calories per day

1500 calorie vegetarian plan: About 65 calories per day

2000 calorie plan: About 80 calories per day
